My first commission! It was a great one too.

I was overjoyed when Bird & Blend Tea Co. asked me to create a piece of artwork to send to their tea box subscribers. Truthfully, I actually had a little cry! It felt like a real moment - a milestone - my first commission from a company. I felt 'proper.'

I'll tell you more about the actual illustration job:

This March, my artwork will be sent out to tea lovers that subscribe to the monthly Bird & Blend tea subscription. Bird & Blend Tea Co. are an award winning, eco-friendly tea company that hand blend tea in the UK.

The theme for the March box was 'the everyday tea moments.' With this in mind, I created a design to fit the brief and to complement this month's tea selection for both the caffeine and caffeine free subscription boxes:

MARCH TEAS:

Flavour Explorer Club

- Sheffield Allsorts (Black tea)

- Tea & Toast (Black tea)

- Lemon & Ginger (Herbal tea)

Caffeine Free Club

- Rooibos Earl Grey (Rooibos tea)

- Lemon & Ginger (Herbal tea)

- Welsh Cake Cwtch (Rooibos tea)

Gourmet Tea Club

- Sheffield Allsorts (Black tea)

- Tea & Toast (Black tea)

- Rooibos Earl Grey (Rooibos tea)

The artwork also has a nod to International Women's Day on 8th March.

What makes this job sweeter is that I was given creative freedom and Bird & Blend were a dream to work with. It has been a great experience all round. I am a genuine fan of the teas. I was bought a subscription for my birthday. I enjoy trying the different teas and I have chosen to extend my subscription beyond the initial 3 months that I was gifted.

I bagged this work by contacting Bird & Blend and asking if they would consider me for an artist commission. This is a nice reminder that it doesn't hurt to ask if an opportunity presents itself.

You can see the artwork in my portfolio here.
